Resumo
Huntingisan activity with regulator yrestriction sand restricted acceptanceby the Brazilian population. It was analyzed the legality of hunting modalities with other countries in South
America in order to create a comparison of the reality of hunting status in these
countries. It was observed that in general the countries of South America allow hunting
modalities, with the exception of commercial hunting which is prohibited by 2
countries. In the second part of the work, we expand the focus to legalized subsistence
hunters in the North of Brazil, presenting their quantity and spatial distribution It was
possible to observe that most of the legalized subsistence hunters are in the state of Acre
which has 2875 hunters corresponding to 70.76% of the total number, followed by
Amazonas with 572 hunters, Pará with 528, Roraima with 80, Amapá and Rondônia
with 4. Tocantins does not have any registered subsistence hunters. This does not mean
that Acre is the most practiced state for subsistence hunting, as the data base does not
reflect the actual number of subsistence hunters. Of the 450 municipalities present in the
North region, only 108 have legal subsistence hunters.
