Resumo

This research aimed to analyze the social representations of different local groups of suicide in indigenous São Gabriel of the Cachoeira - AM. Focus groups were conducted with professionals in the areas of health, education, social, religious and linguistic Catholic NGO, as well as interviews with local managers of the respective areas and indigenous and religious leaders. For the analysis of the representations was used hermeneutic-dialectic method, with the allowance of theoretical Lay Theories. Were described, analyzed and explored the social representations of the participants about the characteristics of suicide motives, precipitating factors or stressors and lethality of means employed, and the meaning of suicide. The bombers were described as being generally male, aged 15-34 years, with impulsive behavior, withdrawn, confused, isolated and closed. The main reasons mentioned were: family structure (associated with unemployment), tensions between parents and children, difficulties in romantic relationships (between spouses or boyfriends), inability to adapt to contemporary changes, consumption of alcohol and other drugs. The main precipitating factors observed acute intoxication by alcohol and / or other drugs, and having been the victim of "breath" (kind of shamanic spell).In relation to the means employed, the hanging predominate in urban and timbó poisoning in rural areas. The socio-cultural diversity of São Gabriel of the Cachoeira indicates the necessity of building an instrument psychosocial autopsy rionegrina adapted to reality, to understand the psychological aspects that motivate this phenomenon, as well as reflect on intent individual.
