Resumo
This study focused on the trajectory and consolidation of the Postgraduate Program in Social Work and Sustainability in the Amazon (PPGSS), the second stricto sensu master's degree implemented in the North region, which is part of the context of postgraduate studies in Brazil. The program was
evaluated as a grade three (regular) for three consecutive times, which put it at risk for its survival with the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). Its general objective was: To analyze the advances and challenges of the PPGSS in the light of CAPES evaluation criteria, to give visibility to the particularities of the Amazon region and contribute to the qualification of the program. The specific objectives consisted of: contextualizing the historical trajectory and the singularities of the PPGSS in Amazonas; highlight the advances of the PPGSS in the four-year evaluations of the years (2013-2016/2017-2020); and uncover the main challenges and obstacles of the PPGSS in the light of CAPES evaluation indicators. To achieve the objectives, bibliographic, documentary and field research were carried out. As it is an explanatory research, in the light of Historical and Dialectical Materialism, the collection and treatment of data took place through a
Mixed Approach, given the need for articulation of quantitative and qualitative data. Over the fifteen years of its history at UFAM, the program has advanced in several aspects, be it in the qualification of the faculty, in the time of the students' degree, in the research that brings the particularities of the Amazon. The results found indicate that, between obstacles and learning, the program has built its maturity and consolidation, which is the result of the collective work of several administrations and the commitment of the academic community. The watershed is the apprehension process and adoption of strategic-participatory planning in relation to the rules of the evaluation conducted by CAPES, and maturation provided by the experience in PROCAD/Amazônia, which resulted in obtaining a grade four in the four-year evaluation 2017-2020 , whose result was known in 2022.
