Ide pelo Mundo inteiro e anunciai o evangelho: as práticas sociais e religiosas do PIME em Parintins

Abstract

This research is a study about the performance of the PIME (Pontifical Institute of Foreign Missions) in Parintins between 1955-1980, the temporal cut corresponds to the installation of the Prelature until the elevation to the category of Diocese, this period is characterized by the great missionary fervor and the initiatives of these religious in the social and religious field, which can be seen in the many works they have done. It is from the work of these missionaries that the Catholic Church will gain a foothold in the city and the Middle Amazon, these Pathfinders evangelized concerned not only with the religious issue, but also with the social. Thus, this study aims to analyze the performance of PIME in the city of Parintins-AM. To this end, we seek to understand how the evangelization process took place and which instruments the missionaries used in their mission. We also sought to analyze the social work of PIME as a factor in strengthening Catholicism in Parintins, which is the general objective of this work. To meet this objective we will seek to: a) address the history of the Catholic Church in Parintins from the Jesuits to the PIME; b) to analyze the social and religious practices of PIME in the Parintins Prelature; c) identify through the narrative of the laity the meanings that the residents attribute to the work of PIME.
