A refinaria de Manaus e o Rio Negro (AM): impactos socioambientais e medidas mitigadoras no contexto da Vila da Felicidade

Abstract

The present research worked the perception of the socioambientais impacts of the refinement of petroleum and its consequences in an area belonging to the District Mauazinho - East Zone of Manaus, starting from a Case Study in the Vila da Felicidade. This area was chosen because of proximity to the Refinery of Manaus Isaac Sabbá, specifically in its surroundings, and the fact of that event be located close to the street above. The aim of the research questioned the relationship between the environmental impacts caused by industry of petroleum refining, in this case the Business Unit Refinery of Manaus Isaac Sabbá - UN- REMAN and the surrounding communities in the context of the Vila da Felicidade. Specific objectives from literature which questioned the instruments of the Environmental Management System to minimize the environmental impacts in these cases; which the environmental impacts perceived by residents interviewed in the Vila da Felicidade, and finally propose Environmental Education as an instrument for the implementation of mitigation measures regarding environmental impacts caused by the refinery. Fifty interviews were held with the residents of this village following a pre-prepared, in which items were discussed concerning the geographical and environmental perceptions of the location in which they live. The data and information obtained were analyzed and presented during the research for a better understanding of the problem. There were also studies of the locatin, emphasizing the importance of Geography in the context of this research, showing features of the area both in the Physical Geography and Human. Respondents in the Vila da Felicidade were randomly selected and subsequently identified by numbers 01 to 50. In accordance with the carried through interviews, majority of the same ones are proceding from the interior of the Amazonas State, followed by coming from the states the Ceará, Maranhão and Pará. The results show that most respondents have knowledge about the environmental impacts that occurred and occur in the area and there is not also social programs for the population of the Vila da Felicidade, because they say most of them know them in theory, but not see in practice, and one more of the claims found in the search results to lack of security prevailing in the community. Research results in the Vila da Felicidade also point to the need to create mechanisms to allow the continued inclusion of Geography and Environmental Education in the daily life of the community, such as the reactivation of the community voice, which has the insertion of schedule educational, while citizenship and the right key to improving the quality of life of this population.
