Formação contínua de professores de inglês da escola pública: um estudo de caso em Manaus (AM)

Resumo

This study has as a general objective to investigate aspects concerning High School English teachers’ education of the State Department of Education and Quality of Teaching of Amazonas - SEDUC/AM in Manaus/AM and, as specific ones, to analyze how it has been happening, and to identify the education needs of these teachers. The theoretical contribution is anchored in the assumptions of the education of English teachers in Brazil (ALMEIDA, 2014; CELANI, 2010; CUNHA; SILVA, 2014; LEFFA, 2001; SILVA; CARVALHO; TEIXEIRA, 2017), in the state of Amazonas (CORRÊA, 2018; MONTEIRO, 2014) and on English teachers education from SEDUC/AM (SEDUC/AM, 2016a). The methodological procedures are based on the qualitative paradigm (ANDRÉ, 1995; CELANI, 2005; DENZIN; LINCOLN, 2006) and on the case study (STAKE, 1995; YIN, 2010). The research carried out in six schools of the State of Education and Quality of Teaching of Amazonas - SEDUC/AM, located in Manaus (AM) and the participants were nine high school teachers, group one, who work at these state schools, as well as the Teachers’ Education Management of Pe. José de Anchieta Professional Education Center - CEPAN, the teachers’ education coordinator and the English education teachers from this sector, group two. As instruments a Profile Questionnaire, and two different Semi-structured Interviews were used to each group. The results showed that teachers’ education occurs in a dialogical manner, meeting the demands of teachers. It was noted, however, the insufficient number of English educators from CEPAN involved in the process. The results motivated the preparation of suggestions for teacher’s educational actions. In addition, subjects for teachers’ education are suggested, based on the analysis of teachers' needs and that a public policy for the education of English teachers has to be created, which can cover the entire state of Amazonas, through face-to-face, distance and hybrid teaching.
