A Comissão da Mulher Advogada da OAB Amazonas e o amparo às vítimas de violência doméstica: um levantamento de dados no Sistema de Justiça do Amazonas

Abstract

The advance and severity of domestic violence still dramatically punctuate the statistics published in the country. However, an institutions such as the Brazilian Bar Association has been taking important steps on the path to the effective protection of women in this sense, in the social and legal scenario. The objective of this study was to discuss the perception of other organs of the Amazonas State justice system regarding the role of the OAB-AM Women's Lawyer Commission in combating domestic and family violence in the city of Manaus. As for the methodology, this is an exploratory-descriptive study involving a field research with a qualitative approach, carried out with the following institutions: Specialized Court of Domestic and Family Violence Against Women, Public Defender's Office, Specialized Police in Crimes against Women and Public Ministry. Data collection occurred through a script of semi-structured interviews that, as a result of the pandemic caused by the coronavirus and following the instructions of the National Research Ethics Commission (Conep) and the National Health Council (CNS), were answered through videoconferencing using the Skype or Google Meet tool. In the data analysis, Discourse Analysis was used, organized into four analytical categories. Having dialogued with the interviewees about some questions related to the addressed theme, the results show that domestic violence in the city of Manaus is a growing condition, but that there has been greater awareness on the part of victims about the need to seek help and report their aggressors. and that among the most significant factors that cause violence against women in the city of Manaus is the patriarchal system, hidden machismo, fear of exposure, financial dependence and lack of knowledge of rights, among other reasons that also affect women in the interior of the state, where there are practically no complaints and there is a lack of public policies to deal with the phenomenon. With regard to the position on the OAB-AM Women's Lawyer Commission, the interviewees stated that this entity has been doing a good job, promoting, together with other justice bodies in the State of Amazonas, support for women who live in a context of vulnerability, reinforcing the protective structure of victims through lectures, legal guidelines, among other actions, aimed at restoring peace and harmony for victims and their children.
