Resumo
This research aims to demonstrate the identity reframing process of Sateré-Mawé’s Indian
I’apyrehyt Community that is located in Manaus. We elected the main aspects that guide this
search, in order to understand this entities’ process: as the migration of the family group
whose gave rise to the Indian Community who left Andirá to Manaus; the religion and
urbanism influence exerted by Manaus at the Community; and the educational process done
inside and outside the Indian I’apyrehyt Community. We focused on not only the Seventh-
Day Adventist Church importance, due to the fact this Church had influenced the Community
by religious persuasion, but also the role Manaus’ urbanism project, besides the educational
process of the school. The general purpose of this research is the analysis of Sateré-Mawé’s
identity redefinition at I’apyrehyt Community by the Church. The specific goals are to
analyze the reasons that favored the migration process from Tereza Silva familiar group to
Manaus; evidence the Indian I’apyrehyt Community organization and foundation; realize the
relationship between that Community and the Church, and report the children educational
process from that Indian Community, as well as the urbanism influence. We chose to use the
Oral History Methodology because it reduces the gaps left by time and data. Therefore, this
technique helps to understand the history in a real time.
