Resumo
The research analyzed the processes of student participation in the field of
technical secondary education, offered in an integrated way, in its relations with the
principle of democratic management at the Federal Institute of Education, Science
and Technology of Amazonas - Campus Manaus Zona Leste. It identified the
mechanisms and institutional spaces provided for the participation of students of
integrated technical courses of the EPTNM in the management, sought the
configuration of student participation processes and verified to what extent these
identified participation processes favor the democratization of management. The
research was carried out based on the foundations of the dialectic, with analysis of
documents and interviews from semistructured scripts. At the stage of the
documentary survey, we proceeded to analyze the legislation in force regarding the
principles of democratic management, legislation regarding the reform of Vocational
Education and documents of the institution investigated such as the IFAM Statute
and General Rules, the Statute of the Code Electoral Council of the Superior Council,
the Academic Didactic Organization and the Regulation of the Class Council of the
Manaus East Zone Campus. The documents pointed to an organizational structure of
collegial management, evidencing formal democratic principles. Student participation
is guaranteed in these documents as a right of the student body to be stimulated by
the direction and faculty. The interviews evidenced the participation processes of the
students from the spaces guaranteed in the official documents, but they also pointed
out obstacles to democratic management, among which we can highlight the
functioning of a single Collegiate with seat specifically guaranteed to students of
integrated technical education. Possibilities of favoring the democratization of the
management in the institution are found in the reports of the interviewees that point
to a possible modification in the form of participation of the student representatives,
in the sense of being able to participate in the meetings of the Council and other
deliberative forums in a broad way, from beginning to end , with possibilities of
effective action. Another potential perspective of the democratization of the
management that the research identifies is the proposal of reformulation of the
criterion of age for student representation seats in the other collegiate managers. It is
hoped that from this study the youth protagonism will be leveraged in the institution
as the fulfillment of the democratic principle of the management established here. As
for the conceptions and spaces of participation, in addition to the opening of existing
colleges to the participation of the students of the integrated technician, it is
necessary that all collegiates provided for in the official documents be put into
operation, thus increasing student participation in the various management sectors,
according to the collected data.
