Resumo
The thesis makes an analysis on the mobilization / political-cultural organization of
indigenous from Rio Negro leaders, members of associations affiliated to the
Federation of Indigenous Organizations of Rio Negro (FOIRN), the body representing
indigenous peoples of this region, around the making of proposals for the
management / care and sustainability / good living of indigenous territories. These
datas and files were collected using multimethod from the perspective of qualitative
research, with the conduction of semi-structured interviews with members of
associations linked to FOIRN; through narrative interviews with leaders who
participated in the creation of the indigenous movement in the rio Negro and the
Federation; the documentary research and observation in events as native
assemblies. The data analysis occurred from the coding and categorization of
information, carrying out a descriptive, theoretical and interpretive content analysis.
The research results indicate that the proposals made by indigenous leaders have
interculturalism as premise, in essence the knowledge dialogues, requiring multiple
pathways and partnerships between social agents and institutions that cross national
borders. The knowledge alliance reaffirms the ethnic identity and promotes
redefinition of what is present in the region, even though is not indigenous, but
because of the history of cash and domination, becomes part of the lives of
indigenous people, including the demand for formal schooling; the technology assets
and information; the income and other alternatives that coexist with traditional
indigenous practices and cannot be seen as "extenders" of their cultures. The
uniqueness of the proposed management of territories, structured by leaders who
work in indigenous associations and FOIRN, is to have viability over the years, the
different epistemologies dialogue, and even conflicting, consolidating projects and
exchanged translated knowledge, worldviews and attitudes the social, economic,
environmental, political and other in the rio Negro. The valuation projects of
indigenous culture; protection of territories; strengthening of indigenous organizations
and sustainable alternative sources of income are constituent part of the Indian
proposal for management of territories, outlined since the official demarcation of the
five lands in the upper rio Negro, in 1998, which marks the mobilization / organization
of these leaders, guided by the assumptions of autonomy and role as a necessary
condition for the consolidation of an indigenous management, mobilized by
indigenous knowledge in a process that does not exclude dialogue with other
knowledge arising from inter-ethnic relations in the past and present, once those are
prospects which project the future of indigenous peoples of the rio Negro.
