Hospital experiences for people who are diagnosed with a chronic disease - in this specific case, cancer - are habits in their lives that in an intense way, mark them forever. There is a long (and for many of them for life) the need to be in hospitals doing medical and health monitoring. The life routine of people diagnosed with cancer undergoes profound transformations, where, in the midst of living in school, work, leisure, or with the family, there is also the need to go to the doctor, preponderating the performance of specific tests, countless consultations, evaluation and dosage of drugs, various analyzes to check the progression (regression and / or stabilization) of the disease. This dissertation aims to understand the hospital experience in the conception of cancer patients: senses in speeches in the light of Viktor Frankl's thinking. Of a qualitative nature, the phenomenological method of research in Psychology was used, through a phenomenological interview with 20 (twenty) patients accompanied by the Fundação Centro de Controle de Oncologia do Estado do Amazonas (FCECON). The data were collected after approval of the Ethics Committee of UFAM, authorization of the competent institution and signing of the Informed Consent Term (TCLE). The analysis was developed from the theoretical proposal of Viktor Emil Frankl. The interviews allowed the elaboration of the following categories of analysis: The experience of communicating the diagnosis; It is urgent to go ahead: the various confrontations; The experience in the institution: between fears, challenges and possibilities; And in the return to the institution, new understandings; Cancer and the perception of finitude. It is understood that the life trajectory of people diagnosed with cancer begins its transformation from the communication of the diagnosis, the full moment of pain, suffering, an experience in which the anguish is immeasurable. However, it is necessary to confront and, at that moment, several strategies are used to be able to go ahead. The institutional experience is full of meanings and meanings, being in the institution causes a series of feelings. In addition, the possibility of finitude and death is experienced. In this way, the senses attributed by these people are immeasurable, unimaginable, given that life and death, suffering and healing, sorrows and joys coexist together, to remain or to continue the journey.
