Knowledge about the technological properties of wood makes it possible to obtain tools that
help to advocate their common applications and uses. It is known that not all timber species
have the same market visibility and when studying their technological value, the high
possibility of comparison or similarities between these species is evident. Thus, the objective
of this study was to propose groups of Amazonian woods with similar (similar) technological
properties in order to encourage the diversification of species on the list of commercial
interest in a forest management area. They were used belonging to a management area of a
private company in the city of Itacoatiara, AM. It was identified through “in loco” research,
which species make up the exploitation list and their commercial aptitude. The allocation of
wood in groups was carried out by means of criteria in which they were identified as
specifications required for good performance. Values were determined for each property,
based on the values of traditionally traded wood. For the physical characterization of the
wood, disks were removed from the shaft of each tree, determining the density, dimensional
stability. For the machining process, the parts used according to the definitions were used.
The results show that the average value for a basic specific mass of the group was 0.70 g/cm-
3, and the retractability parameters varied from stable to unstable, with an average anisotropy
coefficient of 1.7. The machining evaluation shows that all species are suitable for planing,
cutting, drilling with drills and nails, with excellent acceptance. From the analyzed group,
three species according to the company's commercial records are less commercialized, so
through cluster analyzes it was possible to group and separate differentiated ones that similar
characteristics define that C. micranta, C. glabrum and P. suaveolens are apt to replacement.
The study identifies the similarity between species considered noble and of high market
outlet with those of lesser commercial value, indicating them as good substitutes for each
other.
