Resumo
This work is a qualitative and quantitative study that describes and analyzes the neologisms creation process in Brazilian Sign Language, specifically in the area of Chemistry, developed under the IFPB. We treat this matter as they consider it essential for the expansion of research in linguistics in the area of Brazilian Sign Language and believe and defend the importance of research to disseminate linguistic specificities of the Brazilian Sign Language. Thus, we seek, through this research, observing and describing how is the creation of new signs, as they are validated and used in Chemistry classes. The research was conducted in a group of Brazilian Sign Languages Teachers, deaf students of the Institution and interpreters who are part of the entitled project "LIBRAS glossary: Chemistry" Sustainable Management Program IFPB - Federal Institute of Paraiba, Campus João Pessoa and therefore this research is characterized as Participatory and Action Research (PAR) with the Linguistics Lexicon as its backdrop. The theoretical basis adopted for this study was the Cognitive Approach and Functionalist and anchored in Alves (2002), Correia and Almeida (2012), Pilla (2002), Croft and Cruse (2004), Pezatti (2011), Martelotta and Wilson (2012), Snow (1997), and the authors who researched the Brazilian Sign Language as Faria-Birth (2009) Tables (2011), Costa (2014), Tables and Karnopp (2004), Ferreira (2010), whose production deal Brazilian Sign Language Grammar and Neologisms Construction Processes. As we will see in our methodological framework, still we are guided by Biderman (2001), whose work is of great importance because of their work with lexicology. We used as data collection instruments, participant observation in meetings in the project, the application of a questionnaire profile and interview. The observations were about four months, during which, every week, this research were design. The observations allowed us to cataloging neologisms proposed and used in Chemistry classes, but also helped us to join the other neologisms approval process that were emerging that the deaf are validating.
