rubber between the years 1880 and 1915. We analyze actions to build the spatiality of the city
where our proposition is that the discourse of modernity and progress, present since the early
transformations of settlement, acted as generating elements of a negative representation of
streams and their nature, contributing to the realization of the logic of exclusion of these
landscape elements and the daily lives of its people. In this scenario, we seek to understand

equipping the city up to the standards of a Modern Urbanism and curative, produced changes
in the geography of the creeks and established the norms guiding their uses and
appropriations. The study aims to demonstrate the desired city and built by the government
