Fraturas em idosos em decorrência de quedas com registro em um hospital do interior do Amazonas: um levantamento retrospectivo de 14 anos

Resumo

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) defines the elderly as the population aged 60 years or older. Falls are common among the elderly, being one of the main causes of fractures, leading to loss of autonomy and quality of life, in addition to being a public health problem due to the socioeconomic impact and morbidity and mortality. Objective: To conduct a retrospective survey of fractures in elderly people resulting from falls registered in a hospital in the interior of Amazonas. Methodology: This is an epidemiological, descriptive, and retrospective study, based on data from medical records related to fractures in elderly victims of falls, from the Medical Records Service of HRC-AM, with municipal and regional coverage. Data collection and recording were carried out by the researchers themselves using a form developed according to variables established by Schwartsmann and colleagues. The results were processed and tabulated using Microsoft Excel. Results: 370 medical records of elderly individuals with fractures resulting from falls were identified. The majority of cases occurred in women (71.10%). Wrist fractures were the most frequent (42.15%), followed by humerus (16.75%) and femur (13.51%) fractures. Of the cases identified, only 1.10% were referred for physiotherapy treatment. Conclusion: The study points to a high incidence of fractures in elderly women, with wrist fractures being particularly prominent, and a gap in the rehabilitation process.
