Resumo
This thesis is the result of a field research carried out in the Middle Rio Negro region, at the
Santa Isabel do Rio Negro / AM municipality, and extended to the upper Rio Negro region,
from the experiences of the movement of the indigenous teen and young, started through the
political mobilization of young leaders in São Gabriel da Cachoeira/ AM. This study aims to
analyze the process of ethnic mobilization of those individuals, understanding such a
phenomenon as a collective expression of a political action that objectifies in the indigenous
movement, either through the creation of the Indigenous Teen and Young of Rio Negro
Department in the Indigenous Organizations of Rio Negro Federation (FOIRN), or through
the creation of the Indigenous Youth Department in the Indigenous Communities of the
Middle Rio Negro Association (ACIMRN). I emphasize that the analysis presented exceeds
the dimensions institutionalized through the indigenous movement and opens a position to
understand the relationships between youth and politics. It also comprises youth
demonstrations that are outside the institutionalized fields, but that differently remain in
constant dialogue. Beyond the groups organized politically, the analysis comprises the
phenomenon of groups of friends, usually classified as "guys". The dialogue among these
organizational forms produces what I consider a new political individual. This individual
takes the battle flag around the specific public policies for youth - whether they are
recognition or identity assertion policies. Thus, this individual is constituted from a process
marked by weaknesses and controversies that express a permanent and in construction
dynamic, which ends up revealing the conditions and social positions that teens and young
Indigenous people occupy in the socio-cultural universe of Rio Negro.
