Quilombo e representação política: o caso de Santo Antônio dos Pretos

Abstract

Taking as an ethnographic situation the social unit, socially recognized as quilombola, called Santo Antônio dos Pretos, located in the municipality of Codó-MA, the research consists of a study of the political relations internal to Santo Antônio dos Pretos, of the political legitimation of the so-called representative of this social unity and the relationship of this legitimation with the Afro-Brazilian religious practices updated there. This study was made based on field research, but does not elides historical depth since it is about change and the transformations that occurred in a certain time, both from ethnographic documentation and from the recent memory of social subjects involved in the scene, as well as of memory and records made in the field in the late 1990s when I produced a report that aimed to subsidize the demand for recognition as a quilombola community.
