Os patrões do Purus: elites fundiárias, poder e novas dinâmicas territoriais no sul do Amazonas

Abstract

In the present study it is observed that in the Amazon the power is present in all historical process and is being reconfigured according to the contextual changes in different moments and with varied manifestations, as is the case of the Purus masters who represent the landed elites Traders and local politicians with important influence in the new territorial dynamics in the south of the Amazon. In a region coveted by natural wealth economic interests are presented in new arrangements of control and in different levels of social, political and economic domination of the peoples and resources of the region. As a result of extensive field research conducted with local leaders, representatives of indigenous peoples' organizations, social and environmental movements and influential figures in the region's politics and economy, this doctoral thesis fulfills the objective of presenting the new dynamics of power represented In the regional political forces that come to operate through people who act as political mediators and representatives of regional interests with extraordinary representation and influence in the region. The qualitative research was based on the collection of documentary records about the region, on the historiographic production, on the participant observation and on the collection of reports of the bosses, politicians, entrepreneurs, rural workers, extractivists, indigenous and religious who work in the municipalities of the Middle Purus. Through observation, numerous field interviews and ethnography were used to identify the processes of development and decline of the rubber economy in the region, their impacts and consequences for the implementation processes of Indigenous Lands and Conservation Units, Processes of mobilization and territorial management of the various social agents that participate in it. It was observed the strategic omission of the State as an institutional presence in the region that results in the strengthening, legitimacy and persistence of private domination in these territories through multiple forms of domination with special attention to the way territorial management has been conducted for the maintenance and control The dynamics of local power.
