A Amazônia de Chico Mendes – análise comparativa da trilogia narrativa: O empate contra Chico Mendes (ensaio), Amazônia em chamas (filme) e Amazônia, de Galvez a Chico Mendes (minissérie)

Abstract

This dissertation is the result of research that aimed to analyze the fictional representation of Chico Mendes and its link to the Amazon. The objects of study are the works: The Draw Against Chico Mendes, by Márcio Souza (1990), Amazon in Flames (1994), by John Frankenheimer and Amazonia, by Galvez to Chico Mendes (2007), by Glória Perez. The trajectory of Chico Mendes is mixed with the history of the Amazon, so, to represent the trajectory of the leader of the forest peoples, it is essential that we portray the path of the rubber tappers in the Amazon that, affected by the 1877 drought, which devastated Northeast region, especially the State of Ceará, came to the Amazon in search of better living conditions, but as they entered the region, they had their labor force exploited in a semi-slavery system very common in the Amazonian rubber plantations. It is in the midst of these questions of social injustice and violations of fundamental rights that, in the 1980s, emerged a leader in the Amazon, Chico Mendes, who gave voice to the least favored and neglected by the Government and their struggle for social justice. was tragically murdered in 1988. In this study, we sought to understand how literature, cinema and television drama represent the history of Chico Mendes in the Amazon.
