Resumo
The period called the Belle Époque which passes the city of Manaus at the turn of the nineteenth to the twentieth century, is consolidated in the historiography for its great prosperity and opulence. Recent historiographical currents come rewriting this history through a different perspective. The characters of that period are coming to life, but indigenous peoples are still invisible. Invisibility present in the sources and traditional history. A rereading of documents with a new look is showing these actors agencies. This scenario permeated by evolutionists and racist theories, refines the denial of indigenous apparatuses, a conflict between the idealized and the real Indian, who has no place. The indigenous are present in the daily life of the city, the "non-places", in contradiction, marginality etc., demonstrating survival strategies.
