Resumo
This study aimed to assess how the family groups of Kwatá and Laranjal villages experience and acknowledge their health-illness processes, taking into account the significance attributed to the risk factors involved in the development of cardiovascular diseases. This study corresponds to the qualitative part of the research project ‘Risk factors of cardiovascular diseases in indigenous Munduruku, Kwatá-Laranjal’, it is financed by the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, approved within the Universal-call 01/2016, process 424053/2016, approved by the Research Ethics Committee, and held under process number 74361617.2.0000.5020. A descriptive, exploratory and qualitative field study was carried out in May and June 2018 in Kwatá and Laranjal villages. A total of 31 people participated in the study. Data collection was conducted by Focus Group, analyzed by Bardin Content Analysis, hosted by MaxQDA software. The results were presented in two articles. The first article addresses the cultural knowledge of Munduruku indigenous concerning risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. It shows that although there is a demand in communities for health education, in order to better understand CVD, cultural knowledge is a hybrid product of traditional knowledge and knowledge acquired by sources outside the village. In the second article the practices of the Munduruku people to prevent cardiovascular diseases are discussed, which is hosted which is done by demonstrating alignment with the recommendations of global organizations, especially in terms of habit changing. Studies in the region should be carried out observing local hierarchization, adopting participatory methods and university extension projects that promote Health Education, as well as studies that aim at indigenous higher education advancements, with the University entrance into indigenous land, reducing, as a result, the impact of academic life on indigenous Munduruku
