Resumo
The Engineering and architecture have been seeking for alternative materials to improve the thermal comfort in the dwellings. Besides, there is a concern about the use of natural resources, as well as the search for sustainable materials. In this context, can be mentioned the polymer composites using lignocellulosics materials. Then, the present study aimed to evaluate the thermal potential use of açaí fruits residues in the manufacture of particleboards using castor oil polyurethane adhesive. The quality of the panels was evaluated based according to the Brazilian ABNT NBR 14810 (2013) and NBR 15220 (2005) standards. Additionally, thermal properties like as conductivity and surface temperature were evaluated by infrared thermograph. The results shown that the panels presented low thickness swelling, but mechanical properties (MOR and MOE) weren't according to recommendation. The panel conductivity value was superior to commercial MDF, but the superficial temperature was similar.
