Potencial da pesca esportiva em comunidades ribeirinhas do município de Barcelos, médio rio Negro, Amazonas

Abstract

The Amazon region holds wide biodiversity with vast flow of ecological services, however, the generation of income from extractive products presents barriers. An alternative to overcome these obstacles is to provide sport fishing services. The study aimed to identify factors that help in strengthening the sport fishing from the inclusion of riverside communities in the municipality of Barcelos, where it was necessary to conduct exploratory research in order to get information about the Community interest in offering sportfishing services. The information for the preparation of the study were collected through semi-structured questionnaire in October and November 2014. Data were analyzed by descriptive and non-linear regression and statistics. It was observed that 55.8% of respondents have a level of education among the 1ᵒ and 5ᵒ year of elementary school. With respect to the activities, agriculture is the main, where the water cycle has no effect on agricultural activities. In the season 2013/2014 3,219 sport fishers had Barcelos as fishing practice target, corresponding to R $ 19,314,000.00 considering the amount of R$ 6,000.00 package for a week of fishing, in which twenty-nine fishing tour companies operating in the region. The period from October to November received 37.9% of the total of the season fishermen. The United States was the country that sent more tourists to the area. Nationally, the state of São Paulo, representing over 50% of visitors come from. It was found that among those who do not offer sport fishing services, 53.5% have an interest. The results show that two variables were decisive for the interest in providing sport fishing services. First, respondents who have family members already engaged in sport fishing, with a positive sign. Second, the age, with a negative sign, as expected, older people are less willing to adopt new sources of income. This ecological service is presented as an important tool for sustainable use of fishery resources in the region, making it also an alternative source of compensation for traditional communities.
