Quando meu barco emergir do profundo lago do desconhecido: literatura e sociedade na obra de Benjamin Sanches

Abstract

This paper presents a critical analysis of the socio-cultural scenario of Amazonas state, specifically the city of Manaus, between the 50 and 60. The scope of the search will be the reconstruction of the state of the intellectual environment in the emergence of the moment called Madrugada Club. Our aim will be through the work of the writer's analysis Amazonas Benjamin Sanches (1905-1978), an important member of the Madrugada Club, measure the scope of the changes implemented by members of the club. Madrugada Club was created in 1954 by a group of middle-class young people in order to overcome the cultural stagnation that plagued the state of Amazonas, especially in Manaus. Given that the socio-cultural panorama of the city of Manaus that period is still academically little considered and that existing approaches are surrounded by an aura of mystification, and provided more than encyclopaedic and informative than the critical value, we propose here is a point of discussion sociological view, from a more incisive glance to determine the gains and limits of this movement which was very important for strengthening an Amazonian intellectuality and can contribute greatly also to the understanding of the formation of Brazilian society and socio-cultural diversity.
