Abstract
The relevance of school sports events plays a prominent role on personal, professional, and academic levels. Experiencing events of such magnitude from childhood can significantly impact the holistic development of young individuals, influencing life choices such as adopting more physically active habits, professional paths, and even interpersonal relationships. This study aims to explore the literature for works addressing the proposed theme, with the intention of highlighting that the Jogos Escolares (School Games) tend to align more with performance-oriented sports rather than the educational sport that should be promoted within the school environment. A literature review was conducted, aiming at a quantitative analysis of the number of scientific articles published in the main Physical Education journals regarding school games and educational sport. During the data collection, all articles related to educational sport and school games were filtered through title screening, followed by abstract and keyword analysis (Phase 1), and finally, full-text reading (Phase 2). Based on the findings, it is inferred that within the analyzed time frame, there was no equity in participation conditions between public schools or across Brazilian states in the Jogos Escolares Brasileiros (Brazilian School Games). Furthermore, the prevailing focus on performance- based sport in the event reveals elements of selectivity, which may hinder students by limiting their opportunities for participation and development.
