Nutrição nos primeiros meses de vida e alimentação complementar de crianças de até 2 anos: uma revisão da literatura

Resumo

Proper and healthy nutrition in the first two years of a child's life is essential for their growth and development. Breastfeeding during this period has been a protective factor for eating disorders, and the introduction of other foods in an appropriate way is also an important aspect of child care, as it prevents possible nutritional deficiencies and diseases. Thus this study aims to carry out a literature review on the theme of complementary feeding for children up to twenty-four months-old. This is a narrative review, a qualitative nature, in search of a theoretical framework that would discuss the importance of complementary feeding in children up to two years-old. Its was carried out in the databases: Pubmed, Scielo, Periodicals of Capes, Scopus, Lilacs, Electronic Site of the Ministry of Health. The analyzed studies showed the importance of complementary feeding offered correctly and at the right time, which meets the energy needs of these children, in addition to the importance of breastfeeding. It is concluded that the early and/or inadequate introduction of complementary foods should be further discussed and despite advances in Brazil on breastfeeding and complementary foods, there are still many children who are being fed incorrectly due to several factors. Therefore, it is essential that the information is passed on correctly by the nutritionist or any other health professional who provides guidance on adequate and healthy food, avoiding errors in introducing these children to food.
