Qualidade do sono e sintomas menopausais em mulheres climatéricas ativas e sedentárias

Resumo

Introduction: Many women suffer from symptoms associated with menopause, which can have different degrees of intensity and affect their quality of sleep. Objective: To determine sleep quality, intensity and main climacteric symptoms among women who practice and do not practice physical activities. Methods: This cross-sectional study is part of a larger project focused on the effects of physical therapy exercises on menopausal symptoms in women aged between 40 and 65 years. The initial sample consisted of 233 women, with 181 eligible after exclusions, living in Coari - AM. Selection was made by convenience and data collection occurred through home interviews. Instruments such as MoCA for cognitive assessment, STRAW+10 to categorize climacteric phases, the Menopause Rating Scale to measure symptom severity, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index were used. Statistical analyses included the Mann-Whitney test, with a significance of 5% and Jamovi and SPSS software for comparison between groups. Results: Of the 181 women evaluated, 13.3% were physically active and 86.7% were sedentary. Most of the sample was between 41 and 56 years old, with an income of up to three minimum wages, and the majority were postmenopausal (55.8%). The prevalence of "poor sleep quality" was observed in both groups, especially among active women (62.5%). There was a high prevalence of somatovegetative and psychological symptoms (>70%) in both groups, with symptom intensity classified as "severe" in active participants and "moderate" in sedentary ones. However, the differences between the overall and domain scores were not statistically significant. Conclusion: This study demonstrated a higher prevalence and severity of symptoms in women who practiced physical activity, which may impair the quality of sleep of these women.
