Resumo
This study aimed to analyze and discuss the methodologies and pedagogical practices applied to athletics teaching in school Physical Education, highlighting their contributions to the comprehensive development of students. To thisend, a literature review was conducted in databases such as Capes and Scopus, considering articles published between 2021 and 2025, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, that addressed aspects related to athletics teaching, technical aspects, playfulness, and pedagogical practices. The results indicate that, although athletics remains underexplored in schools, innovative methodologies such as meaningful learning, teaching based on conceptual, procedural, and attitudinal dimensions, and the Systemic-Ecological Model of Athletics Teaching demonstrateeffectiveness in promoting student empowerment, playfulness, the integration of theory and practice, and the development of motor, cognitive, and socio-emotional skills. The analysis also indicates that the success of pedagogical practices depends heavily on the teacher’s intentionality and their preparedness to adapt methodologies to the school environment, overcoming structural and cultural limitations. The conclusion is that, when taught through participatory, inclusive, and integrative strategies, athletics classes can transcend their sporting nature, becoming a tool for human, social, and ethical development, reinforcing the importance of educational policies and projects that strengthen their effective inclusion in the school curriculum.
